A long time ago, I was laid off.
It wasn't that my bosses didn't like me.
It wasn't that they thought I wasn't doing a good job.
It wasn't that anyone else at the company bad-mouthed me.
Nope. It was simply that they weren't able to market my skills to their clients.
Realizing that job security, the main reason to get a job as an employee, is a myth, I decided to hang my own shingle.
It took several months, but I finally got my first paying gig. Then, when that one ended after a few weeks, another one. Then another.
Long story short, my income that first year was higher than the salary I'd lost, and that was my lowest-income year since.
Sometimes, rather than finding your dream job, you have to create it.
