As I replied to another commenter, Israel is in a rough neighborhood, where restraint in the face of attack isn't viewed as a mature, thoughtful approach, but rather as proof of weakness leading to increased appetite for further violence.
This is why Israel will doubtless respond, most likely with a physical "kinetic" attack on Iran.
I just hope they manage to thread the proverbial needle - a severe enough response to reestablish deterrence but limited enough to avoid forcing another round of retaliations.
