Having said that, it's been well established that real wages for the middle class (at least in the US) have mostly stagnated over the past 40-50 years, while the cost of housing and education both increased dramatically in real terms.
The minimum wage in the US (in real terms) actually dropped ~5% from 1970 to 2020!

Median home prices in the US more or less doubled since 1970 (inflation adjusted, see, e.g., https://dqydj.com/historical-home-prices/). During this time, average home size increased by 38% (see, e.g., https://www.rocketmortgage.com/learn/average-square-footage-of-a-house), so even the per-sqft cost increased 45% in real terms.
