My analysis shows (a) unboosted articles can and often do earn more than boosted articles published in the same month, and (b) Medium pays approximately 4x for boosted articles, all other measures being equal.

This means that not only does boost drive more traffic your way, but for the same number of views, the same number of reads, the same read fraction, the same community engagement, you'll get 4x more money from Medium if the article was boosted.

As a result, earnings skew higher for boosted articles, though as your article demonstrates, that doesn't mean you can't outearn a boosted article with a non-boosted one.
