FWIW, my compensation and my net worth are high enough that none of this applies to me beyond what I choose. I'm talking about people who are genuinely poor.
If you're already one step above homelessness, are working two (minimum wage) jobs and can't make ends meet just covering minimal rent, groceries, and health care expenses, and don't own or lease a car because you can't afford it and use public transport instead, your options for cutting expenses are minimal to non-existent.
Sure, for middle-class and higher status, I'd accept that almost everyone has some "fat" in their spending that they can (and in many cases should) cut. But that caveat (as to who this applies to) should be acknowledged, or you risk looking tone-deaf and oblivious.
