Great thought-provoking article.

One thing I’d add is the following. Say you make say $100/hour, and don’t enjoy cleaning your house. Say also that cleaning the house would take you three hours. In this scenario, paying someone else $150 makes perfect sense, as you would need to work a couple of hours (hopefully doing things you enjoy doing) to cover with after-tax dollars the cost of someone else cleaning the house for you.

Similarly, you can replace cleaning the house with mowing your lawn, shoveling the snow from your driveway, etc.

Also, the same holds true for lots of tedious things in your business if you own a business. For example, if your working the business can bring in $100/hour, then it makes sense to hire someone for $15/hour to do things like answer the phone, bring in the mail, shop for supplies, etc.

All of us have the same 24 hours in each day, so to the extent that it makes financial sense, you should outsource those things that you don’t enjoy doing and that you can pay others to do effectively and efficiently.
