How would you feel about B&Bs? We've had some really great experiences with those. Though many hotels are pretty darn good too, some aren't.

I can't count the number of times the hotel AC was as loud as a jet engine pre-takeoff or people were super loud in the corridors and/or in rooms near us and/or around swimming pools down below.

And let's not forget the high-endish hotel in the SF Bay area that had cobwebs, clogged shower/bath with no hot water, no other rooms available, and no maintenance available until the morning.
