I agree that over time anti-trust protections were degraded, reducing competition, which works against innovation and maintaining lower prices. The rules now allow over-concentration as long as the few remaining companies don't abuse their near-monopoly to gouge consumers. The problem is that there's never a clear line between high profits and overly high profits.
