I don't disagree that federal spending has to be curbed, but it's disingenuous to show the debt in dollar terms and revenue in percent of GDP.

I think the better metric is debt service as percentage of the federal budget. That steers clear of using GDP as a measure of one or both. Though I'd really agree that it wouldn't capture the growth of the federal budget itself as a fraction of GDP.
