However, making a one-to-one comparison between people who have $100k in the US to those who have $100k in, e.g., the Philippines is more than a little misleading.

If we take the plausible position that how wealthy you are depends not on net worth in dollars, but rather in years of income (as done by most financial advisors), someone with a $100k net worth in DC will be 65% less wealthy than someone with the same dollar-based net worth in Manila.
Using US net worth percentiles to compare $100k to $35k, we find the former is at the 56th percentile while the latter is at the 41st.
