I think that young man could use (and undoubtedly will get) some seasoning that comes from experiencing the real world, seeing how things are rarely as simple and straightforward as one naively believes, and how the best of intentions often lead to disappointing results (not to mention the results of ill-informed actions). Regardless, he sounds like a thoughtful young man who will indeed learn those lessons that life teaches all of us (which isn't a given - so many of us fail to learn then despite life being an insistent teacher). I enjoyed your story, and think both he and you conversed thoughtfully and respectfully.
