I think this is vastly overstating things. For Iran to do this, they'd need to feel they have no alternative but to get involved in an all-out war with the US.

While the mulllahs running the show there are religious fanatics and love to posture and threaten in an attempt to prevent or reduce attacks on them, they're also too wily to start a war they know they cannot win.
