I'd add a third suggestion - when possible, make a strong case for a contrarian position. My top-performing article (>$2400) proved with data that buying used cars is more expensive on average than buying new and driving to the same car age (e.g., drive from new to 10 y.o. rather than from 5 to 10 y.o.). Since so many finance writers simply regurgitate the same "cars lose 30% of their value as soon as you drive off the dealer's lot so only idiots buy new" nonsense, my headline was surprising and intriguing.
