Having said that, recall that I wrote: "The tragic fact remains that either way, thousands of Palestinian civilians have died, and thousands more will doubtless join them because of Hamas's actions and what they forced Israel to do in justified self-defense."

In other words, I don't trust Hamas to speak the truth if a lie would serve them better. However, per the Lancet, it seems they have not done so in this regard. However, whether the Hamas figures are inflated or not, thousands of innocent Palestinians died as a result of the hostilities triggered by Hamas, and the fact that Hamas intentionally uses Palestinian civilians as human shields.
