In a perfect world, such double standards would not exist. Unfortunately, (borrowing from a Walgreens commercial of a few years back) we live nowhere near perfect. :)

I believe it's hard to disagree that our society suffers from a variety of injustices, including what's been labeled as "patriarchy."

Given that, it's understandable why some women are so distrustful of men that they fail to note their own bias in that regard. If anything, I'm surprised it isn't even more widespread.

Interestingly, while many see the harm done to women as a result of patriarchy, fewer see the damage it does to men - making it "unmanly" to acknowledge your emotions and/or showing vulnerability.

That's been found to lead to what's known as "covert depression" among many men.
