Interesting read, and as others have commented, while it's unfortunate that our society suffers such extreme inequality, it's nice to hear of people from different backgrounds forming and retaining lifelong friendships.
One thing I noted was where you say, "...if you are fortunate enough to be wealthy, try not to rub it in, intentionally or otherwise."
The problem is that in many (most?) such cases, the wealthier person is not rubbing it in intentionally, and if it's unintentional, they really can't not do what they don't realize they're doing.
Thus, I'd suggest that it may be a more effective request to make that people who have (relatively speaking) a lot of money consider that most others are far less fortunate. And realizing that, be more present to the potential impact of how they present their circumstances.
A good thing to always keep in mind is that even if you're a multi-millionaire or even a billionaire, you're no more (or less) worthy of warm regard than someone who's financially poor.
