It's interesting to note that while Tornado Alley sees the majority of tornadoes (hence the name ;)), when you look at the frequency of tornadoes per 10,000 square miles (https://www1.ncdc.noaa.gov/pub/data/cmb/images/tornado/clim/avg-ef0-ef5-torn1991-2010.gif) two of the top three states are nowhere near it - Florida is in first place at 12.2 and Maryland is in third place at 9.9.
