It's so unfortunate that our politicians (note that I did not say our leaders because imo we don't currently have any of those) seem to only worry about clinging to power, and our fellow citizens seem to only be committed to pushing their pet agendas that mostly amount to ensuring that everyone is forced to live how they think is "right."

When that's all we think of, it's of course easy to shove any inconvenient things into the landfills (actual or metaphorical).
