One critical thing you can do as a consultant is help your clients realize that they can get critical work done more efficiently and without long-term financial commitments by using your services for things for which they would otherwise need to have employees on the payroll.

Whenever my clients ask me, "Can you also do X?" I'd try my best to find a way to say "Yes" with integrity. I would not take on work I'm not well qualified to do, but even if it's work I don't love doing, if it helps my clients, I'd add it to the mix.
