Other commenters have already said much of what I wanted to say. It’s so painful when you’ve been wronged and a close friend who’s in a position to at least stand up for you chooses to not get involved. We’ve cut off longtime friendships over such behavior.

How much worse this is when it’s not just your feelings being hurt, but your home and sanity being put in real jeopardy!

In this so difficult time, remember that most people are kind most of the time. Trust is not your enemy, but like Ronald Reagan once said, you should trust, but verify. That’s what contracts are for. Yes, your failing to get it all in writing is on you, but the failure of the other party to live up to the verbal agreement is on them, and your friend’s failure to speak up on your behalf is on her.

I wish you the best in getting through this crisis, both financially and emotionally. Don’t let this silence a beautiful voice.
