Regarding "doesn't make you successful," it depends on your definition of success. If you truly enjoy coding, then earning a low-to-mid $200k salary for doing what you love is far more successful than earning double or triple that doing something you don't enjoy.

And if you know what you're doing financially, earning that level salary plus bonuses for 10-15 years can set you up for life.
