To be accurate, I’m not planning to be out of the market. I have 70% of my portfolio in the market, and am not planning to move lower than that (short of some extraordinary occurrence that I can’t think of at the moment).

As for the numbers on being in/out of the market on its best and worst days, the data I found show that missing both the best and worst, or experiencing both don’t offer significantly different results.

The reason I did what I shared was that by moving to cash the 19% resulting from my over-performance in 2020, I reduced my market risk without reducing my upside potential relative to what it would have been had I matched the market’s 2020 return.
