I didn’t take your initial comment as rude, but perhaps more as if you were focusing on your own situation and your own preferences.
There’s nothing wrong with doing that, but if one does so, it’s best to acknowledge that you’re knowingly speaking to your own personal preferences. That was the point I was trying to make to you in my previous response.
With your additional comment, I now understand better what you really meant by your original comment.
Yes, I agree that buying a super-fancy car is not likely to make one much happier in the long run than buying a good, solid, reliable car that you enjoy driving. However, that’s my personal opinion, and there are any number of people who disagree, which is why BMW, Mercedes, Lexus, Rolls Royce, etc. are still around :).
I can only speculate, however, that it might explain why some very wealthy people buy not just one fancy car, but many such.
Perhaps they buy another each time the emotional “shine” has worn off the previous car they bought. That might explain their owning many more cars than there are drivers in their household…
