While I don’t have much experience with the top 0.1%, I do know quite a few “moderately wealthy” folks, with net worths of 7–8 figures. None of them are what you call the “trust fund crowd,” but rather first-generation wealth, usually from building a business. My observations mostly agree with yours, though I do see more of a variety of how these people decide when to buy a car and what car to buy.
