However, even before covid, my analysis of Edmunds "cost to own" data proved that buying a car new and driving it for 10 years is better than buying it after 1, 2, 3, 4, or 5 years and driving it until it's 10 years old.
There are some caveats to this, the biggest being that if you're an auto mechanic (professional or amateur), you can buy an older car and carry out needed repairs far more cheaply than taking the car to a shop.
All that may run counter to conventional wisdom, but conventional wisdom is often not very wise... 😉
