That's my thought. For both financial and non-financial reasons, going from full-time-plus work to zero overnight doesn't seem like a prudent plan.

I'm planning to go down to 50%-time for a couple of years, then 30% for a couple of years, then 20% for a couple of years.

This gradual transition should let me ease into retirement, and provide the freedom to either stop working altogether or somewhat increase my level of effort, depending on what life throws my way.
