The biggest issue is when you try using customer reviews when assessing a prospective purchase, given how so many merchants have weaponized fake reviews.

That's why I always look at how many reviews there are, and whether there are more negative than positive reviews recently, which may happen if the merchant previously paid for fake reviews but now that they've stopped, the real reviews are surfacing.
