The cost to own an EV is, if anything, higher than the cost to own say a hybrid.
For example, the Tesla Model 3 Long Range costs $60k to own over the first five years (https://www.edmunds.com/tesla/model-3/2022/cost-to-own/?style=401922686) compared to $42.5k for the hybrid Toyota Camry (https://www.edmunds.com/toyota/camry-hybrid/2022/cost-to-own/?style=401904124).
Interestingly, even in the maintenance and service costs, the Camry beats out the Model 3, $4.6k vs. $5.3k over the first five years.
