The emergency fund size, even in months of expenses, depends on your situation. If you're single, have no dependents, have a stable job, and have a strong family safety net, three months of expenses is fine. But if you're married with kids, your spouse doesn't work, your income isn't stable, and you have no family safety net, even 12 months may be too little.
