The question each of us has to answer, which will provide a different result for each, is what risk we prefer to take.
Sticking with the 9-5 while building the new thing on the side risks that it will take you longer to get to your goal and may keep you too comfortable to go outside your comfort zone, limiting your results.
On the other hand, quitting your 9-5 early puts your entire financial wellbeing at risk. If going all-in results in losing it all, what's your plan B?
Part of what will drive different people to different answers are the following:
- How big a risk are you willing to take?
- Are there others (wife, kids, etc.) whose wellbeing depends on your making the right choice?
- How easily can you recover from losing it all?
