The three best things parents can do (if they’re able) to help their kids succeed are:

• Teach them the basics of personal finance
• Cover their college costs so they graduate without (too much) debt
• Take care of their own retirement funding so they don’t become a financial burden on their kids just when those kids have their own kids to take care of

If you can’t do the middle one for your kids, you should at least do your darndest to take care of the other two.
