There's another huge advantage that billionaires have over someone with net worth closer to the median. They could lose 90% of their wealth and still be wealthier than 99% of us will ever be. That gives them enough of a safety net that they can afford to swing for the fences every time. Even if they lose big, they won't be wiped out. They'll have enough to make another bet and keep playing.
