This also reminds me of companies recently saying they'd reduce pay for employees who work remotely if they live in a lower-cost area than if they live near the company's offices. I find that to be highly unethical. If you refuse to give your employees higher pay if their landlord bumps up their rent, since you're paying for their work product, not responsible for their expenses, then you can't reduce their pay because their expenses go down as long as they provide the same work product.
