This really resonates with me. A few years ago, I had lunch with two work colleagues who'd become friends. Both are a few years younger than me. The conversation turned to plans for retirement. When I shared that I was planning to keep chugging to age 67, they were both surprised I needed to stay in that long. When I got home that day, I played with some scenarios and realized I could afford to cut to 50% within a few years, and retire fully after another couple of years. So that's my plan. As for my friends, one retired a year ago in his mid fifties. The other is talking about retiring as soon as he completes a major project he's working on, probably in 2-3 years.
