While I, like you, am deeply horrified by the death of so many innocents, different than you, I place the blame where the laws of war put it, squarely at the feet of Hamas.
It was Hamas that kicked off this devil's dance with an unprovoked and inhuman attack on Israeli citizens going about their daily life inside Israel's internationally recognized borders.
It was Hamas who tortured, raped, and murdered over 1000 Israelis and foreign visitors and workers.
It was Hamas who took over 240 hostages into Gaza.
It was Hamas who launched thousands of rockets at Israeli towns and cities.
It was Hamas who carried out all these war crimes from under, next to, and inside protected civilian locations such as mosques, hospitals, playgrounds, schools, kindergartens, etc., thereby turning them into legitimate military targets.
It was Hamas who shot at Palestinian civilians trying to evacuate neighborhoods that Hamas turned into military targets.
It was Hamas who subverted UNRWA, using their relief supply trucks to smuggle rockets into Gaza and calling on UNRWA teachers to hold Israeli hostages.
It was Hamas who diverted endless support funds and supplies including critical fuel supplies to support their terrorist actions.
So, while I lament with you that Israel's prime minister is Netanyahu, who I firmly believe is guilty of many crimes (e.g., bribery, etc.) but not war crimes), and who invited Qatar to fund Hamas for years, that has nothing to do with Israel's right, nay, Israel's duty, to attack Hamas and eradicate it from the face of the Earth and from its rat's tunnels under the Earth.
I truly believe that while imperfect like any other nation, Israel is not guilty of any war crimes, crimes against humanity, genocide, or ethnic cleansing.
For those, look no further than Hamas.
