While I totally agree that it can be awesome to move your life to some interesting and alluring destination for 2-3 months, it doesn't have to be a once in a lifetime opportunity. I'm actually planning to do it once I dial back my consulting business from full time to half time. Having said that, you're completely right that it's much harder once you have kids, and until the last of them goes off to college...
