You may well be right, but not for the reason you state. Putin may have prevented WW-III by starting a far more limited war against one country, but failing so miserably at it (at least so far) that it's hopefully become crystal clear to the Russian elites that they'd have zero chance in a major war. If that's how things continue to play out, Russia won't be confident enough (or powerful enough) to try more wars of aggression.
